Getting to the Lodge: You will need to rent a car to get to the lodge. Shuttles are not available.
Departure Information: On your departure day you will drive from the lodge according to your flight schedule (see itinerary for details).
Documentation Requirements:
You need a valid passport to enter Canada and it must be valid for six months after the last day of your trip.
Currency:
The official currency is the Canadian dollar. You will need to exchange money at your local bank or simply use your ATM card once in Canada. US dollars are also widely accepted.
Travel Cash:
As a guideline we recommend that each guest travels with enough cash for staff & guide gratuities.
Gratuities:
We recommend a guide gratuity of $50 – $100 per day to be given to your guide at the end of each day and $10 – $15 per day for house/kitchen staff can be left on the morning of your departure.
Fishing Licenses:
Fishing licenses are not included. Please be prepared to pay for these on-site with cash or credit card. See itinerary for details.
Alberta fishing licenses are also available online at the following website http://www.mywildalberta.com/Fishing/LicensingFees/BuyOnline.aspx. Anglers may prefer to purchase their licenses in advance to save time on-site. Please call Fly Water Travel if you need assistance in purchasing your license online.
Climate:
Temperatures typically range from the mid 50’s to the mid 90’s. In the summer it is usually quite warm during the day and cool in the evening. However, it is important for guests to be prepared for cold rainy conditions throughout the season.
Medical Facilities:
The closest medical facility is in Lethbridge, approximately 1.5 hours from the lodge. Guests have the responsibility to disclose any special medical, physical, or dietary needs to the lodge ahead of time.
Power and Communications:
There is spotty cell phone coverage at the lodge, provided your carrier allows coverage in southwest Alberta. The lodge has a land-line telephone for emergencies and wi-fi is available throughout the property.
Water:
Water at the lodge is potable.
Clothing:
As the climate is extremely changeable and a wide range of temperatures and conditions can be expected, we recommend layering clothes. Anglers should be prepared with thermal underwear, fleece/soft shell jacket, and a rain jacket. Synthetic fabrics are preferred to cotton. Dress at the lodge is neat but casual.
Laundry:
Laundry machines are available upon request for guest use during their stay.
Beverages/Alcohol:
The lodge does not provide alcohol. Guests may bring in their own.
Tackle/Equipment List:
Rods: 5wt to 7wt with a length of 9' to 10'. The heavier the weight rod, the longer it should be to protect the light tippet sizes sometimes required for the rivers in the later months of the season.
Reels: Trout reels require a smooth drag to keep the spool from overrunning itself and enough room for the line and 100 yards of backing.
Lines: Floating lines, either weight-forward or double taper, are all that’s required.
Leaders/Tippet: 7.5 – 9 ft. 2X leaders. Bring 1X – 4X tippet. Fluorocarbon tippet material is a good choice. Please note that fluorocarbon doesn't decay like monofilament does. Please, please, please take your tippet home and don't litter the river. It will be there forever! P.S. Tie good knots!
Flies:
Dries: Bring all your spring creek Mays, caddis and midges as well as some of the following: assorted caddis #14-18, PMD #16-18, BWO #16-18, Trico duns and spinners #18-20, Griffith gnats #18-22, Midge pupa, 16-22, assorted mayfly cripples and spinners in 14-18, assorted terrestrials including hoppers beetles and ants. Bring an assortment of your favorite attractor dries as well.
Nymphs: Pheasant Tail nymphs #14-18 (with beads and without), #16-20 Morrish anato-mays in olive, hare’s ear and amber, Dirty Bird #14-18, sparkle pupa in tan and green #14-18, any nymphs in your box that have non-gold beads or no beads.
Waders & Boots: We recommend bringing breathable waders with felt soled boots. Also consider neoprene socks and zip-off pants for wet wading on warm days.
Miscellaneous: Sunscreen, lip balm, bug dope, polarized glasses, brimmed hat, bandana, hemostats, tape measure, split shot and indicators, camera with spare batteries and film, floatant, and a waterproof bag for day gear.
