Travel Logistics:
Arrival Information: To get to El Pescador Lodge you need to make flight arrangements into Belize City, Belize. When you arrive at the Belize International Airport, proceed through Immigration, collect your bags and continue through Customs. The Customs line to the far right has a green sign that states "No Goods to Declare." Proceed to this line.
Getting to the Lodge: After clearing Customs please continue into the Main Terminal and to the Tropic Air counter. You will find your tickets waiting for you under both "El Pescador" and your last name. Your adventure begins with a quick, scenic 20-minute flight to San Pedro, Ambergris Caye where a representative from El Pescador will meet you at the San Pedro Airstrip. A lodge representative will greet you at the San Pedro airstrip and transport you and your luggage to our boat for the seven minute ride to El Pescador.
Departure Information: On your departure day a lodge representative will transfer you to the airport in San Pedro for your flight to Belize City and points beyond.
Documentation Requirements:
To enter the country of Belize, US citizens are required to have a valid passport that does not expire within 90 days of arrival and a return airline ticket. US citizens are allowed to stay for 30 consecutive days.
Currency:
The Belizean dollar is worth half of a US dollar. Dollars are accepted everywhere, but change will be given in Belizean dollars. For your convenience, please bring small bills to cover small expenses, such as Airport Departure Tax, bar bill, & incidentals.
Travel Cash:
As a guideline we recommend that each guest travels with approximately $700 - $1,000 for staff & guide gratuities, alcohol, gifts, etc.
Gratuities:
We recommended $200-$250 per boat per week for fishing guides. If there are two anglers in the boat, they could each tip between $100 and $150. Guide gratuities should be given to your guides at the end of the trip. Gratuity for the lodge staff should be given to the lodge manager.
Climate:
Temperatures typically range from the low 70’s to the mid 90’s. Isolated afternoon thundershowers are a possibility year round. Wind can be factor while fishing and the sun is very strong. July through November are the wet months in the region with October through November presenting the highest risk of hurricanes. Small biting flies are common in the evening hours especially when the wind dies down.
Medical Facilities:
The closest medical facility is in Belize City, approximately 30 minutes by air from the lodge. Guests have the responsibility to disclose any special medical, physical, or dietary needs to the lodge ahead of time.
In emergency situations, a charter flight may be required to reach a medical facility. Guests may want to consider medical evacuation coverage. We recommend Global Rescue.
Power and Communications:
El Pescador lodge has full power 24 hours a day and outlets are compatible with U.S. appliances. WiFi is available.
Water:
Bottled water is available throughout El Pescador.
Clothing:
Quick dry pants and shorts, long sleeved quick dry shirts, casual cotton pants and t-shirts, shorts and shirts, sandals, bandana, “Buff” facial sun protector (www.planetbuff.com), hat with wide brim, sun gloves, light rain coat, and swimsuit are recommended. Wet wading with flats boots (Simms, Patagonia) is the norm. Supportive sturdy flats boots are best, as many flats have tough marl bottoms. Boat fishing footwear: Non- scuff - white soled deck shoes or sandals: Crocs work well and are comfortable. Dress at the lodge is neat but casual.
Laundry:
Laundry is available upon request to guests during their stay. Please be prepared to pay for this service onsite.
Beverages/Alcohol:
The lodge provides local beer and rum drinks as part of your package. Guests may bring in their own.

Bonefish : All of your bonefish flies should have weed guards for fishing all of our flats.

Lines: weight-forward floating line, 10 -15 lb. tippet; small spool of 10 lb fluorocarbon
Flies: Pink Puff, Crazy Charlie, Bonefish Special, Snapping Shrimp, Bonefish Bitters, Gotchas, Ultra Shrimp, Yucatan Charlie, Turneffe Crab, Small Crabs. Hook sizes 4, 6 and 8. Some flies should be tied with a mixture of lead, bead and some with no eyes, for tailing fish.
Permit
Rod: 9-10 wt.
Reel: minimum of 175 yards of backing
Lines: weight-forward floating line and/or a floating line with a clear intermediate sink tip. 10 -15 lb. tippet; 20 lb fluorocarbon
Flies: Raghead or Merkin sizes 2-4 and 6, tan and dark brown, tan and olive with weed guards. Bauer Crab and Fleeing Crab.
Tarpon
Rod: 10-12 wt.
Reel: 200 yards of backing min.
Lines: slow to medium rate clear intermediate sinking lines.
Flies: The Cockroach, The Grizzly in colors of red/white, yellow, white, white/green and orange/solid black. For evening, black poppers and purple/black whistlers. Leaders: pre-made loop-to-loop leaders with flies already tied on.
Off Shore:
Rod: 12-14 wt.
Reel: large arbor with minimum of 250 yards of backing.
Lines: floating, medium to fast rate sinking lines.
Flies: Deceivers, Clouser minnows, poppers, etc.
Miscellaneous
Light rain suit - for the occasional rain shower
Flats boots - with thick soles a must. We have a limited supply available for rent.
