Rogue River Wild and Scenic Float Trips

This fifty-mile boat trip traverses a scenic and secluded stretch of the Rogue River. This particular stretch was designated as a “Wild and Scenic River” by congress in 1968, and therefore has only hiking trails and limited road access near the beginning and end of the trip. There is spectacular natural scenery, wildlife, white-water rapids and fly fishing, all of which provide for a unique experience for all ages and all levels of fly fishing experience.
The season extends between late August and mid-November, and the fly fishing is generally good throughout the season. Your quarry will be the famous Rogue River “half-pounder”. These are steelhead ranging from 14” to 24”, with some larger fish up to ten pounds.
Rogue River Canyon Location:
The Wild and Scenic stretch of the Rogue River flows through Merlin, OR and empties into the Pacific Ocean at Gold Beach, OR.
Rogue River Canyon Fishing Program:
McKenzie River type drifts boats are utilized for this trip. Each boat will have one guide and two passengers. For safety concerns, there may days when you will be discouraged from wearing waders while drifting. At other times waders may be appropriate and even encouraged for those that like to get out and work the runs. Most folks don’t bring waders along but many will elect to bring rain pants especially for trips in October and November.
Rogue River Canyon Accommodations and Meals:
Your accommodations for the trip will be the Black Bar, Marial and Illahe lodges. The lodges serve family style dinners and breakfasts, and also prepare lunch for the following day on the river. Often your morning’s catch is prepared with lunch. Evening dress is informal.
