Not Included: General gratuity for the hospitality and housekeeping staff of Strawhouse, guide tips, fishing licenses, beer, wine, specialty coffee drinks.
Travel Logistics:
Arrival Information: To get to the Trinity River and Strawhouse Resort you need to make flight arrangements to Redding, CA and rent a car.
Getting to the Lodge: Follow Hwy 299 from Redding towards Eureka, 72 miles (15 miles past Junction City). You will see the Strawhouse Coffeehouse on your left in the town of Big Flat, right past the sign for the campground. Check-in at Strawhouse is 2pm.
Departure Information: On your departure day you will drive from the Resort according to your travel plans (see itinerary for details). Strawhouse check-out is 11am.
Travel Cash:
As a guideline we recommend that each guest travels with enough cash for staff & guide gratuities.
Gratuities:
You have an opportunity at the end of the trip to give a general gratuity for the hospitality and housekeeping staff of Strawhouse. We encourage you to tip the guides directly either at the end of each day or at the conclusion of your last day on the water. As a guideline we recommend a gratuity of $40 - $80 per day (per boat) for the guides.
Fishing Licenses:
Fishing licenses are not included. There are numerous places in Weaverville to purchase a license.
Licenses can be purchased online at www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/ols/intro.html.
Climate:
Since the best steelhead fishing is done in the fall and winter months, anglers must come well prepared for cold, wet weather. Frost, snow and rain are all common so please be sure to have quality rain gear gloves, and a warm hat when visiting the region.
Medical Facilities:
Redding has full medical services and is located about an hour away. Weaverville has a small hospital with emergency service as well.
Power and Communications:
Wireless internet is available in the main building and sometimes works in the rooms. The office will provide a free landline if needed. Cell phones do not work here.
Clothing:
Warm socks, polar fleece pullovers or sweaters, warm hat, one or more pairs of fishing gloves, a quality waterproof wading jacket, synthetic long underwear and fleece pants. Note that boot foot waders are worth considering for late season anglers prone to cold feet. Bring casual attire for meals in the lodge.
Laundry:
Laundry service is available at reasonable prices upon request.
Beverages/Alcohol:
Guests are welcome to bring their own alcoholic beverages. Beer and wine as well as coffee drinks are available and can be added to your room tab. There is a $5.00 corkage fee when bringing your own bottles to dinner.

Rod: 9-10 ft. rods in line weights 6-7.
Line: Floating lines
Leader / Tippet: 2X and 3X tippet material.
Flies: Assorted weighted nymphs. As for the larger nymphs consider the following: Morrish Dirty Bird in natural and rust size 6, assorted golden stones in size 4-8, assorted dark stones and egg sucking stones in 4-8, Morrish deep October caddis pupa size 6-8, Unreal eggs size 12 in assorted colors, prince #6. For smaller trailing patterns consider the following in sizes 12-16: copper johns in copper and red, bloody Mary, Morrish Anto-May, flash back PT’s, Bird’s nest, and assorted glo-bugs in size 8-10.
Strike indicators and floatant.
For anglers interested in swinging flies, bring 6-8 wt. spey rods with interchangeable sink tips and 8-12 lb maxima tippet. Large Marabou and Spey patterns are effective in sizes 1-4 as well as smaller traditional patterns in sizes 4-8. Dry flies work well through October.
Waders & Boots: Chest high breathable and or neoprene waders with studded soles are recommended. Wading belts are also strongly recommended.
Miscellaneous: Dress in layers and bring a warm waterproof jacket and gloves. Polaroid fishing glasses, needle nose pliers or hemostats for releasing fish, nippers, camera and lots of film, insect repellent, sunscreen, a waterproof bag for your day gear, hat, bandana, split shot, and tape measure.
