Fishing Program:
Simply stated, Lake El Salto has surrendered more 10-pound-plus bass in the last two years than any bass lake in the world. Although it was once known simply as a "numbers" lake, El Salto bass get bigger and bigger every year. Most skilled anglers can expect 30 to 80 fish days per boat with the average fish being over 4 pounds. A big reason for the astonishing success is fast-growing pure Florida strain bass. El Salto is one of the few Mexican lakes that harbor pure Florida strain bass. In addition, Anglers Inn’s guides are the most experienced on the water (with 13 years of experience). All anglers fish from 18 foot Tracker boats equipped, 48 HP Yamaha, trolling motors, swivel seats, front and rear casting decks, and Coast Guard approved life jackets.

Lake El Salto Statistics:

Lake El Salto is fed by the Elota River.
Lake El Salto is at an elevation of 600 ft., offering approximately 45 miles of shoreline with islands, submerged orchards and many cemeteries
Fishing season: October 1st – June 30th
Rainy season: July 30th – September 30th.
Average bass: 3-4 pounds
Lake Record: 18 pounds
Fly Fishing Record: 12 pounds

Fishing Techniques to consider:
Varying your retrieve of the fly is important. A few of our favorite retrieves to try include:
     Using a continuous strip….strip
     Pop..pause..twitch…long pause
Be sure to pause and let the rings settle out
Cast beyond structure and let your fly sit by the structure
Strip rapidly when using a longer leader to imitate bait being chased just under the surface.
We have found that it is important to not only cast at the structure but also into the open water as well. You will be fishing over a variety of habitat structure including submerged trees, brush, and buildings.

Additional Notes:
When is the absolute best time to experience Lake El Salto’s best top-waterfishing? October 1st through April 30th produce the best sheer numbers of fish on topwater.

When do the bass spawn? Usually February through March.
Give me some idea of the best time to fish for those big post-spawn females in El Salto? April, May, June.
What is the best month to catch trophy bass on the lake? Every month is a possibility, in the fall you can catch them on crankbaits and topwater; in the late spring you catch them on plastic.

The service at El Salto was really super!! I can't think of one single thing that those people had not thought of to do for us. And my very favorite on shore, were the rocking chairs on the veranda where I could sit and read in the beautiful weather. Really a very neat place. A Super Thank YOU Rachel for all the hard work!!!” Donna Murrill
