Seychelles Live Aboard

Seychelles

On Hold Due to Pirate Activity in the region

No well-informed angler would dispute that when done right, a boat-based trip to the Seychelles’ outer islands represents the ultimate saltwater odyssey. Large, uneducated bonefish tailing over white sand flats, super-charged trigger fish working marl, and unprecedented numbers of pugnacious giant trevally vigilantly cruising the edges of uninhabited atolls make this trip an admittedly hard act to follow.

Equally as remarkable is the fact that one such trip has recently raised the bar. Through the purchase of their own vessel, the MV FlyCastaway, the captain, crew, and guide staff can for the first time work seamlessly towards the common goal of showing guests the best of what this fishery has to offer. At 120 feet, the recently remodeled MV FlyCastaway has four levels, seven guest cabins with showers and flush toilets, as well as quarters for four guides and eight crew members. Stable, fully air conditioned and laid out with serious fishing in mind, this spacious vessel is the ultimate platform from which to tap what we consider the finest flats fishing on the planet.

With one guide and tender for every three anglers, this trip is both fully catered and physically demanding. Skill and stamina are essential, especially for those keen on hunting the region’s giant trevally that are known to wreck tackle and rigging at an alarming rate. For the ambitious angler keen on the ultimate saltwater adventure, look no further.

Seychelles Fishing Program:
The fishing can be as relaxed or as adventurous as you want to make it. There are white sand flats, turtle grass flats, coral flats, reef edges and surf fishing. You can take it easy, or fish hard. Please be aware that GT’s are trophy fish, and live in a harsh environment. They do not come easily to the fly, and should you wish to target these fish extensively you will need to fish hard for them and often in fairly rough areas. You will come across them on the sand flats, but mostly you will find the trophy fish along the reef edges and channels. Remember that because the atolls are big, guests cannot be spread out over the whole atoll – a decision on where to fish is made each day, and all anglers will be fishing in that general area. Bonefish are common, and there are plenty of big specimens to be caught. There are also good numbers of triggerfish, snapper, grouper and smaller Trevally species for those who do not want to target the big GT’s. The atolls experience large tidal ranges, so there are going to be periods of slack fishing during the course of each day, mostly around the high tides when you are limited to the beaches and edges of the islands.

There will be a total of four guides for 12 anglers so a fair degree of independence on the water is recommended.

The boat anchors inside various lagoons, in the lee of the islands meters from the flats. The meals are hearty and wholesome, and are provided by onboard cooks and served on the cool, shaded upper deck when weather allows. Mealtimes are relaxed and flexible to suit your fishing requirements. Small changes to the menus are possible, but due to logistical constraints the galley cannot always cater for major allergies or medical conditions. Meal times are adapted according to fishing times.
