Western Alaska Sportsfishing
Alaska

You might consider this trip the Alaskan fly fishing equivalent of an African safari. This is a true bush experience rife with wilderness, wildlife, and a sense of isolation that's hard to find even in Alaska. Legendary Alaskan fly fishing outfitter and all-around good guy, Dave Egdorf has been running his wilderness camps for nearly 25 years. His program is utterly unique, featuring two fully equipped tent camps on two separate rivers. Half of the week is spent fly fishing the remote King Salmon River, and then clients transfer via floatplane to the wild reaches of the Upper Nushagak River. Both camps feature double occupancy wall tents with comfortable bunks and bedding, wood floors, and electric lights, as well as hot shower facilities, drying rooms, and spacious dining tents where hearty meals are served each evening.
Location:
Western Alaska Sportfishing is located in the headwaters of the Nushagak river, in the Bristol Bay Region of Southwest Alaska.
Fishing Program:
Western Alaska Sportfishing has the distinct advantage of being a small Alaskan fly fishing operation with two tent camps in the Bristol Bay Region. This allows them to cater to both the serious and the more laid back fly fisherman. Western Alaska Sportfishing focuses on the fertile waters of the upper Nushagak River. The upper Nush is a very good trout fishery and also has runs of all five pacific salmon, Dolly Varden, and resident grayling These waters are accessed by Jon boats with 40 hp jet units and anglers fish two per guide. Flexibility is the key to the fly fishing schedule. Every morning they sit down with guests and go over plans for the day. Their operation has one camp on the King Salmon and another on the Nushagak. Anglers spend three full days at the first camp and then fly to the second camp for another three full days of fishing. Both river systems have runs of all five pacific salmon, rainbow, dolly, and grayling and you access them with Jon boats with 40 hp jet units.
Accommodations and Meals:
Both camps feature double-occupancy wall tents with comfortable bunks and bedding, wood floors and electric lights, as well as hot shower facilities, drying rooms, and spacious dining tents where hearty home-style meals are served each morning and evening.
