Western Alaska Sportsfishing
Alaska
You might consider this trip the Alaskan angling equivalent of an African safari. This is a true bush experience rife with wilderness, wildlife, and a sense of isolation that's hard to find even in Alaska.
Legendary Alaskan outfitter and all-around good guy, Dave Egdorf has been running his wilderness camps for nearly 25 years. His program is utterly unique, featuring two fully equipped tent camps on two separate rivers. Half of the week is spent fishing the remote King Salmon River, and then clients transfer via floatplane to the wild reaches of the Upper Nushagak River. Both camps feature double occupancy well tents with comfortable bunks and bedding, wood floors, and electric lights, as well as hot shower facilities, drying rooms, and spacious dining tents where hearty meals are served each evening.
Western Alaska Sportsfishing Travel:
To get to Kim and Dave Egdorf’s Western Alaska Sportfishing camp you will need to make travel arrangements to and from Dillingham, AK. The camp has two schedules:Thursday to Thursday and Friday to Friday.
Thursday to Thursday Weeks:
For Thursday trips please schedule your flight to arrive no latter than 3:00PM. In Dillingham you will be met by Kim or Dave Egdorf who will drive you approximately 25 minutes to Lake Aleknagik. From there you will take a floatplane the remaining one hour to camp. On the last day of your fishing week you will fish until early afternoon and then return to camp to prepare for your evening flight back to Dillingham. You will need to make hotel arrangements for this evening.
Friday to Friday Weeks:
For Friday trips you will need to arrive in Dillingham on Thursday and spend the night in Dillingham. We recommend staying at Beaver Creek Bed and Breakfast. On the last day of your trip you will be transferred back to Dillingham in time to make the afternoon flight into Anchorage.
Alaska Airlines, Continental, Delta, Northwest, and United all fly into Anchorage International Airport. Check with your travel agent or the airlines for schedules. Alaska Airlines and Pen Air are the only airlines that fly into Dillingham. The lodge has special rates from Anchorage to Dillingham on Penn Air. To get this rate call Penn Air at (800) 448-4226. Tell them that you are guests at Western Alaska Sportfishing (Egdorf’s Camp).
Western Alaska Fishing:
This region's fishing is nothing short of spectacular and concentrates on targeting husky, beautifully colored rainbows in the 18 to 25 inch class. Dolly Varden, grayling, and all five species of Pacific salmon abound. Anglers fish two per guide in well-equipped jet boats. Close proximity to the best waters ensures maximum time spend fishing. For those who treasure true wilderness solitude, exceptional wild rainbow fishing, and a safari-like sense of adventure, this is the place.
Western Alaska Sportsfishing Accommodations:

After returning from your day’s fishing adventure the Drying Tent serves as a place for you to hang your wet waders, coats, boots and anything else you don’t want wet or dirty in your sleeping quarters. This tent’s heater is lit every night to ensure that your things are nice and dry by morning. The Gazebo/Viewing Deck is a split-level wood structure located close to the dining and lounge tents and has a great river view. The bottom area is open aired and enclosed with fine mesh bug screen. This is a great place to sit and enjoy the midnight sun without being bothered by our little biting buddies. Directly above is the viewing deck. Bring your camera-- the sunsets can be breathtaking!
