Desroches Island Resort
Seychelles -Indian Ocean

Desroches is destined to become the new standard in luxury fishing accommodations. Four bedroom deluxe beachfront villas have private swimming pools, central living and entertainment area as well as a modern kitchen and a private chef. While enjoying Desroches many fine amenities, anglers fish the nearby flats of Poivre and St. Joseph islands. Desroches Island fishing adventures will also offer special trips that will explore the seldom fished Remire island, Remire reef, and the African Banks. The flats on these islands hold exceptionally solid bonefish populations, good numbers of permit, triggerfish, and three species of trevally. In addition to the flats fishing the area produces outstanding blue water action for Tuna, whaoo, and sails.
Fishing Program:
The managers of Untamed Angling and Desroches Island Resort will meet you on arrival. They will introduce you to the hotel porters who will transport you to your Vila by golf cart. After checking in and unpacking, lunch will be served. The first afternoon is at leisure, with the option of testing your gear on the flats around the island.
On the first day, you will meet your guides at the fishing center at 7:00AM. There you will load on to the mother ship and be ferried to Poivre and or St. Joseph atolls (according fishing week schedule), a 45- 60 minute trip depending on conditions.
After arriving to the atolls, you will transfer to skiffs, which are powered by Yamaha 50-hp motors and equipped with flares, flotation devices, rod holders, storage compartments, and coolers. Virtually, all fishing is by wading; however, should you wish to fish from the skiffs, the guides would gladly assist. Casting from the skiffs for trevally and permit is productive in certain situations. The hotel provides a packed lunch with bottled water and soft drinks. Fishing days are approximately 8 hours, starting on arrival at the flats. Guides are instructed to stop fishing at 4 p.m. and return to the ferries. For safety reasons, all boats from the resort must be back in the mooring area at Desroches no later than 5 p.m. Please honor your guide’s request to stop fishing promptly.
Poivre:
Poivre is about 40 minutes by boat from Desroches and with a total area of area of 2.48 square km, is famous for its attractive semi-lagoon and also for its deep-sea and flats fishing.
The most interesting characteristic of Poivre Atoll is that it has one of the highest populations of Permit in the Seychelles. Anglers will find most of the permit feeding/tailing along the turtle grass, deeper channels and coral banks.
Poivre also has a reasonable GT population. Spring tides proved to be are the best for GT’s but they can show up anytime. You will often find these fish in knee-deep water, pushing big bow waves and sometimes with their backs out of the water. They come from the ocean to hunt on the flats. Although overall numbers of fish are not huge the size has been impressive with several fish in the 60/80lb class landed each season.
In addition to permit and GT Poive also holds populations of Queen fish, Bluefin Trevally, , Barracuda, Triggerfish, and the mysterious and very technical milkfish.
St. Joseph:
St Joseph Atoll is located some 45km west of Desroches about 60min by boat. It has fishable area of about 24 square kilometers between flats and lagoon.
It is an Atoll that is made up of huge sand flats and a big lagoon in the middle and several smaller islands dotted around the main Atoll.
St Joseph offers amazing fishing both blue water and on the flats. It has a huge population of bonefish, often in big schools. These fish can be found throughout the flat from the highest tide to lowest tide. As the tide starts to drop these fish start to split up into smaller groups, heading to the lagoon and a few heading to the surf. Depending on the tide these bonefish will either be in big schools close to the islands or around sand hill’s. As the tide starts to drop they will split up into smaller groups and single fish, crossing the flats looking for their final bit of food before they head to the lagoon.
In addition to bonefish St Josephes hold solid populations of permit, trevally, barracuda, and sharks.
Guides:
The guides are all professionals from the Seychelles, France, South Africa, and Argentina. They are all English speaking and have a great sense of humor, a quick smile, and will go out of their way to see to it that your fishing day is a success. They're knowledgeable not just about the fishing but also the life and history of the Seychelles as well as the local environment, and some even hold qualifications in the field of ecology. One thing you will notice is that distances to the fish are sometimes given in meters instead of feet (a reminder as to which side of the globe you are on), but if you think in terms of meters being a near equivalent of a yard, you should do just fine. If you are having difficulty with the estimates, remind your guide that you are used to distances being given in feet.
Other Avtivities:
Non angler’s companions and families have an endless list of activities to choose from. There are cycling tours to the island´s jungle, a tennis court, swimming pools, secluded beaches, a spa, a diving center with instructors that provide scuba and deep sea diving with various PADI and NAUI diving courses, guided snorkeling trips, and sea kayaks. Babysitter service is also provided.
