Travelex Insurance

Travelex Insurance –

Travel insurance is an excellent way to protect your investment in your trip. When purchasing travel insurance, it is important to decide what your priorities are (trip cancellation, flight cancellations and delays, outfitter/airline default, terrorism, medical expense reimbursement, etc.). Travel insurance rates are based on trip cost and traveler age. In general, trip insurance will cost approximately 10% of the trip price with lower rates applying to younger applicants and higher rates applying to older applicants.

Some of the main reasons to purchase travel insurance include concerns related to health, work schedule, trip interruptions especially for destinations that are difficult to get to (charter flights, etc.), and concerns about outfitter or airline default.

Be sure to buy travel insurance if you want to protect your investment and:
• You think you may need to cancel your trip because of your health or an immediate family member’s possible illness or death.
• You think you may need to cancel your trip for work related reasons. (Note: This is usually an optional coverage with an additional charge.)
• You want to be able to cancel your trip for any reason. (Note: This is usually an optional coverage with an additional charge and may only reimburse at 50%.)

Outlined below are the basics of travel insurance. We encourage you to ask the insurer questions and/or read the fine print so that there are no surprises about what is covered in your policy and what the reimbursement rates are. Additionally, claim forms must be submitted for reimbursement and often require documentation from booking agent, airline, outfitter, employer, physician, etc.

Travel insurance usually covers:
• Trip Cancellation as outlined in policy
• Trip Interruption as outlined in policy
• Trip Delays/Missed Connections as outlined in policy
• Equipment and Personal Effects Loss
• Hospital and Medical Expense Reimbursement
• Medical Evacuation (limited coverage options)
• Other coverage depending on the policy

Optional upgrades may cover:
• Trip cancellation for any reason
• Trip cancellation for work reasons
• Increased $$ coverage for equipment and personal effects loss

Fly Water Travel recommends the Travel Select policy issued by Travelex. Please note that the Travel Select policy requires that the purchase of the policy occurs within 21 days of the initial trip deposit or certain coverages (cancellation for any reason, pre-existing medical conditions, etc.) may not apply.

Global Rescue

Global Rescue –

Membership in an annual medical evacuation plan is recommended for anyone who travels internationally on a regular basis. Travelers to destinations like Russia, Christmas Island, the Seychelles, Brazil, India, and Alaska are especially encouraged, and sometimes required, to purchase medical evacuation coverage. Fly Water Travel recommends Global Rescue, the only medical evacuation service that provides both field rescue and transportation to the domestic hospital of the member’s choice.

When purchasing medical evacuation coverage, the important distinctions between plans are:
• Can the member choose the hospital where they want to go?
• Does the plan provide for field rescue evacuations?
• What is the medical necessity required in order for an evacuation to occur? Does a member have to be admitted to a local hospital before evacuation can occur?
• Most medical evacuation coverage bundled with travel insurance does not provide for field rescue and does not provide the insured with choices regarding hospitals.

Global Rescue membership includes:
• Aeromedical evacuation via private or commercial aircraft to member’s domestic hospital of choice in the event of illness or injury requiring inpatient hospitalization more than 160 miles from home. Patient does not need to be hospitalized to qualify for transport.
• 24/7 medical consultations with Global Rescue physicians, paramedics, and physicians at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
