Isla Del Sabalo (or “island of tarpon”) is a remote tarpon camp squarely positioned along an untapped and pristine stretch of mangrove coastline on the Yucatan peninsula. The lodge is located in the small and rugged commercial fishing village of Isla Arena at the end of a long single lane road in the middle of nowhere. It is here that our friend and colleague Marco Ruz has been developing an incredible fishery for juvenile tarpon. It has taken Marco and his guides years to figure out the feeding habits of the tarpon in this vast network of mangrove lined estuaries and off shore zones. Isla Del Sabalo has for several year been a simple off-the-grid camp for adventuresome anglers comfortable with very rustic surroundings.
We are excited to announce that for the 2017 season the lodge has undergone some notable improvements that we believe will make this location a prime destination for adventure seeking tarpon enthusiasts. Furthermore, Marco has decided to only offer this location during the season’s most prime tide windows. This is a practice seldom seen among outfitters and essentially guarantees that you will be at the operation during absolute prime times. If you’ve experienced baby tarpon before and are looking for a new and super remote location with the potential for out-of-this-world baby tarpon action then I would strongly consider you take a look at Isla Del Sabalo this summer.
Here are some of the more notable improvements coming up for 2017:
– All angler cabanas have been outfitted with electric water heaters for hot showers.
– A new kitchen and bathroom area has been added to the central dining palapa.
– New thatch roof on the central palapa.
– New “Heavenly” mattresses in all of the rooms.
– New paint throughout
– All availability is prime availability with hand selected tides for the best fishing possible.
