Rapids Camp Lodge is a high-caliber, full service fly-out lodge with excellent home waters and one of the most diverse fly fishing programs in Alaska. Seasoned hard core fly anglers appreciate the wide range of waters the lodge frequents including staples like the Moraine, Battle Creek, Funnel Creek, and the American Creek. Other prolific “under the radar” rainbow and char fisheries mandate an adventuresome spirit and sturdy walking legs. During the early and late season, the lodge concentrates on fly fishing for large rainbows in the “rapids” of the Naknek River near the lodge.
The lodge features eight comfortable double-occupancy rooms with private baths, a large friendly bar, two gourmet chefs, a workout room and all the needed waders and tackle their guests require. With three Beavers, a turbine Otter, and handsome jetboats for the home water, Rapids Camp has endless options for all. Whether you’re after silvers or kings, massive rainbows on the spey rod, or a crack at wilderness rainbows that rarely see a fly, this is an operation that will show anglers of all skill levels the best Alaska has to offer.

The July 13 – 23 is great timing for first time Alaska visitors as it offers great diversity and consistent weather. King, chum, sockeye, and early silver salmon along with rainbow trout, Dolly Varden and grayling are all in the mix. Trout anglers can toss streamers, even mice and the sockeye runs will be running strong. Chum salmon will be available in many rivers and their willingness to chase flies and pull hard make them a fantastic sport fish. Kings will be on the backside of their runs, but chances are there will be some mixed in with the chum. There is also potential to see the first arriving silver salmon by the end of your stay.
The August 21 – 31 time period typically offers the some of the best rainbow trout fishing of the season as they gorge themselves on eggs from the spawning salmon. The home river, the Naknek, will have the largest rainbow trout of the season entering and opportunities at trout over that magic 30-inch mark are certainly available. Dolly Varden are numerous and grayling eager to take a dry fly on the surface. The silver salmon will be available in good numbers too. This is one of the most desirable times for ardent Alaska anglers and truly a unique offering with incredible value.
