While it has been a colder and wetter summer season in Alaska than we are used to, the fishing has been quite productive for sizable rainbows at one of our favorite destinations, Fishing Bear Lodge. These large trout are a result of extremely high sockeye returns over the last few years, which has made it possible for anglers to consistently catch rainbows over 20 inches each day this season. The conditions have called for more sink tip fishing than usual for this time of year, but in between the flurries of rain there has been some great dry fly action as well.
