Not a week goes by in which I am not asked about which trips simultaneously offer great rainbow fishing and salmon fishing in Alaska. This is an important question and the answer varies depending on the time of year and location. It just so happens that the early season king and chum salmon runs coincide with some of the best streamer and mouse fishing for rainbows. The later silver salmon runs coincide with the best bead and flesh fishing for big rainbows. Fortunately these cycles are predictable and allow for anglers to plan exactly the trip they want. Helping anglers understand these cycles and options is what I do for a living.

There are lots of options for enjoying such a trip. Full fly out lodges can quickly travel great distances and offer the flexibility to visit many different systems to find fresh salmon and the best rainbow rivers available. Float trips offer the ability to cover many miles of the same river often targeting rainbows high in the system and then salmon in the lower reaches. Many base camps offer a great value in terms of targeting both rainbows and salmon on the same trip. Below you will see some of our favorite venues for these sorts of trips across The Last Frontier.

Please give David a call at 800.552.2729 if you would like to discuss any of these options
