Birthplace of the Dry Fly from Fly Water Travel on Vimeo.

The United Kingdom boasts many historical references in both it’s culture and architecture yet none maybe more impressive than the fact that this is where the very sport we dedicate our lives to was born over 700 years ago. For many, fishing here is a right of passage as a fly angler.  A true bucket-list trip.

The town of Stockbridge is quintessentially old English and incredibly charming. The main draw for anglers is the crystal clear river than run through it’s heart – arguably the most famous chalk stream in the world – the majestic River Test.

It was on the Hampshire chalk streams that English aristocrats of the 13th century first used flies as a means of catching fish for sport. Over centuries the sport of fly fishing has been refined and mastered here, paving the way for this special new offering.

This program is a Fly Water Travel exclusive centered around the sport’s most historic waters. A select group of our guests will have the opportunity to target large brown trout with classic single fly techniques during the most coveted dry fly dates of the year.  World famous for its superb trout fishing, the beats are all within the 16 miles of private water of the exclusive Leckford Estate waters.

After breakfast each day, anglers will be picked up by their guide who will drive them to their private beat of water for the morning session. Lunch will be stream side and after lunch, the afternoon session of fishing will begin.  All fishing is done on a private beat system with each beat catering to a maximum of two anglers per session.  This exclusive access allows for an intimate angling experience and allows for adequate resting and minimal pressure on the fish.

Angling here is done from immaculately manicured bank-side lawns; a regulation designed and implemented to preserve and maintain these fabulous ecosystems. Fishing from the banks enables anglers to get within easy casting range of the majority of fish. With that said, these fish can be very technical.  The predominant species here are native brown trout and grayling, however the fishery also boasts hatchery rainbow trout and some extremely large pike.

All meals will be included during your stay at an exclusive English manor hotel in the countryside. Lunch will be packed, for bank-side river sessions to maximize your fishing time.
