Eleven Experience – Andros Mothership

The Eleven Experience Mothership is a 74’ Hatteras motor yacht designed to be the ultimate base from which to explore the most remote and productive water on Andros.  The vessel features three staterooms, ample living space and provides a comfortable luxurious base from which to experience Andros Isand’s famed and wildly remote west side. The west side of Andros Island is a pristine saltwater wilderness featuring a vast array flats, channels, creeks and blue holes where fly anglers can target some of the largest and most abundant bonefish in the Bahamas.

The west side of Andros has been long known to provide some of the most awe-inspiring bonefishing opportunities in the world. Whether it’s targeting high numbers of fish or large fish, in general, this portion of Andros Island is a highly sought after zone. However, due to the difficult nature of accessing this area (as most lodges are on the east side of the island), anglers seldom get the opportunity to spend full days on the water here due to tidal or weather constraints. The Mothership solves this issue and keeps anglers in and around the best waters all week long in remarkable comfort.

2. To reliably spend quality time on the west side of Andros Island and enjoy flexible hours on the water.
3. To pair a fishing vacation with an adventure to an extremely remote area.
4. To experience luxurious accommodations, fine cuisine, and service on a private yacht.

Where is the lodge?
The yacht is anchored on the west side of Andros near the mouth of the southern bight.

How do I get there?
Guests can fly directly to Congo Town on South Andros from Nassau. Eleven Experience will meet you at the airport and transfer you approximately 1.5 hours to the yacht via their 24′ twin-engine tender.

When should I go?
Peak months are March through May with the fall season being very productive as well. Do not overlook October and November.

Where do they fish?
Anglers fish the expansive and remote flats of the west side of Andros Island with easy access to the Water Cayes.

Who is best suited for this destination?
Anglers keen on targeting bonefish with a fly as well as anyone who loves the yachting experience.

What are the accommodations and meals like?
Accommodations are very comfortable and well-appointed. There are three unique rooms on the yacht that vary in size and configuration but are generally on the smaller side. All the comforts of home are available on the Mothership. Meals are a mix of thoughtfully prepared American and Bahamian cuisine and special dietary needs can be accommodated.

Can you describe the atmosphere of the lodge?
The yacht and Florida-based crew make for an approachable, friendly and cheerful vibe. If you love being on the water on a luxurious yacht, then this is the experience for you.

Is the owner on-site? If not, who is the manager or point person?
No. However the captain of the mothership is always available to assist, answer questions or aid in making your trip a fantastic experience.

Is there internet or cell service?
There is no cell coverage, however, the yacht does have a satellite-based wifi and communication system for emergencies and simple messaging.

How do they fish?
Anglers fish two per skiff in fully featured 18′ Beavertail flats skiffs set up specifically for fly fishing. Hours can be very flexible.

What fish will I catch?
Bonefish are the main quarry. Fish range in size from 2lb – 8lbs with catches every season pushing the double-digit mark. Tarpon are also available at certain times of the year under ideal conditions. Some opportunities also exist for snapper, jacks, and sharks.

How many fish will I catch?
Any time you land double-digit numbers of bonefish in a single day it is a good day.

Will we see other anglers?
There are times when you may see anglers from other lodges, however, because they typically have very long runs to access this zone and can only stay for short periods of time, pressure is very limited.

Is there wade fishing?
Some wade fishing is available but due to the soft bottom structure, most of the fishing is accomplished from the boat.

How long does it take to reach the fishing grounds?
Fishing runs of 10 minutes to an hour are possible. You are essentially anchored in highly productive water, so run lengths are dependant on your fishing desires and conditions.

Do the guides speak English?
Yes, English is the first language of the guides.

What are the guides like?
The guides are highly experienced Bahamians with extensive knowledge of the west side of Andros Island. They are friendly, professional and will work very hard to help you have a great experience.

Where do we stay?
Guests stay on the yacht in one of three staterooms that all feature private bathrooms.

What is the cost?
Trips can be booked for the whole yacht or normally as a single or double occupancy accommodation. Current rates are posted here: https://www.flywatertravel.com/destination/androsmothership

Does this destination combine well with other destinations?
Generally, anglers do not combine this trip with others, however, it would be easy to add stays at other locations on south or middle Andros.

Does the lodge provide equipment?
Yes, Eleven Experience can provide all equipment for your trip including flies, leader and terminal tackle.

What is your favorite rod(s) for the trip?
Currently, my favorite rod for this trip is a Sage Igniter 9ft, 8wt.

Are there other activities?
Non-fishing activities are limited since the west side of Andros is so remote and off-the-grid.

What are the physical demands?
Physical demands are generally not an issue.

Dangers and annoyances?
Some mosquitoes and biting black flies can be present. Bringing long sleeves and pants as well as a good bug repellent is a good idea.

Are there any health concerns?
Not generally at this time. Please check with your doctor and the CDC for any specific concerns.
