Fly Water Travel is excited to introduce Madison Double R, one of our newest destinations in the Rockies. Madison Double R blends classic western themes with modern design and architecture, resulting in a high end experience on the iconic Madison River.
The beautiful 3500 square foot lodge is comprised of two pods connected with an outdoor trellised terrace. The lounge portion of the lodge features a full bar with premium wines, beers, and spirits, a river rock fireplace, two TVs, and an outdoor covered fireplace porch with stunning views where hors d’oeuvres are served as the sun dips below the horizon.
The spacious dining room opposite the lounge boasts massive windows with views across the pond and meadows, and of the mountains across the valley. For much of the summer, the windows slide aside for an immersive outdoor dining experience.
From breakfast through dinner, meals at Madison Double R provide more than just sustenance. The culinary program, crafted by Chef Scott Warren, features local ingredients, fresh fruits and nutritious snacks, thoughtful wine pairings with dinner and creative riverside lunches. Chef Scott was trained at Le Cordon Blue and Culinary Institute of America, and he has managed first-quality ranch culinary programs for over 21 years.
Five spacious Creekside Cabins provide simple luxury in a private setting. With views that look out over a beautiful meadow ringed by towering cottonwoods, it’s not uncommon to see some classic Montana wildlife. Each cabin offers two queen beds, over-sized showers, soaking bath tubs, wood burning fireplaces, flat panel TVs, hardwood floors, outdoor cedar decks, and small kitchenettes making a supremely comfortable hideaway at the end of each day.
Two 1700 square foot, 2-bedroom Mountainview Cabins thoughtfully-positioned next to each other are perfect for those who have something sophisticated, spacious, and possibly social in mind. Sleeping up to 8 guests comfortably, the Mountainview Cabins are ideal for up to 4 couples, 8 friends, or a sprawling single-occupancy option. The prevailing views of the Madison Range are jaw dropping.
About the rivers:
Two miles of the Madison River run along the lodge property, and guided float trips on the are certainly a main focus at Madison Double R. Boasting numerous stretches as it courses from Yellowstone National Park to the headwaters of the Missouri, the Madison River gives anglers an amazing mix of fly fishing.
Madison Double R is fortunate to be within easy striking distance to several more productive trout rivers; the lower Big Hole offers excellent fishing for browns and rainbows, along with a wild and remote setting and the chance to see wildlife like moose and bald eagles. The Jefferson River is nearby as well, with its undercut banks and surprisingly strong brown trout.
Fishing the smaller Ruby River offers intimate small creek casting, and trips to explore the waters in and around Yellowstone National Park offer even more scenic angling opportunities. If you want to try still-water fly fishing, Hebgen and Ennis Lakes offer potential for trout in the 20″ – 22″ variety. Madison Double R also has a partnership with an outfitter in West Yellowstone, should you want to experience the fabled Henry’s Fork (of the Snake) and Henry’s Lake, known for its sizable hybrid trout.
If you’d like to brush up on your casting skills, the stocked pond is a great place to start. And finally, if you’d like to combine fly fishing with an adventure, horseback trips to high mountain lakes and streams can be a supremely memorable experience.
