One more set of float trip dates remain for the 2020 salmonfly and golden stonefly hatch on the Lower Deschutes River. Not only is this hatch an adrenaline-filled adventure involving big dry flies and voracious wild “redside” trout, it is also a beautiful time to float the scenic Deschutes River canyon. The canyon walls are in bloom, the weather begins to transition from late spring into early summer and wildlife viewing opportunities abound. The Deschutes during spring is a great opportunity for both novice anglers and veteran anglers to increase their skills fishing dry flies for trout. These early June dates represent a great time to focus on the the upper stretches of the canyon, where the golden stoneflies continue to hatch into the second week of the month. If you are confident in your wading abilities, open to camping riverside in spacious wall tents and want to experience some of the best trout fishing that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, this is not an opportunity to be missed!
