As the country slowly begins to ease restrictions many anglers are interested in looking for saltwater options a little closer to home. Last Fall I completed an incredible trip aboard Eleven Experience’s Outpost mothership in southern Louisiana (3 hours south of New Orleans) focussing on redfish, black drum and sheeps head. Due the strong desire to get out and about these days, space is very limited.

This is a fantastic trip for those looking for an effective winter escape that is still close to home. While the sometimes cold temperatures can make angling a challenge, redfish are a cold water species and as long as they see your fly, they will eat it. There may not be a better close-to-home option for winter flats fishing than chasing these big bull reds. Additionally, guests arrive and depart through New Orleans which can make for a fun addition to your trip.
