Steelhead hold a very large and special place in the Pacific Northwest fly angler’s heart; they are an icon and symbol for the entire region. While the history of Spey casting for steelhead is relatively short compared to that of Atlantic salmon, there is no doubt that the practice is sacred to many and a rite of passage. The wild steelhead-bearing rivers of California, Oregon, and Washington are truly beautiful and when combined with the artful practice of Spey casting create an outstanding overall experience. Below are some of our favorite Pacific Northwest destinations where anglers can target summer steelhead and current availability at each.
