We are happy to report that one of our favorite operations in the world will again be accepting guests starting this month. Tarpon Cay Lodge resides in the small village of San Felipe on the northern coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. It has long been our favorite location for chasing juvenile tarpon on the fly and we are thrilled to see it reopening.
Like so many operations worldwide, Tarpon Cay has been closed to visiting guests since March as their entire season was cancelled. Most guests have largely been rescheduled to 2021. The historical prime time season is May through September, however, we do see excellent results every year with trips that occur after September. The juvenile tarpon that reside in the waters around San Felipe are residents, so they are there ready and waiting. There is currently plenty of availability from September 12 through December 12, 2020 and with the fishing grounds having been completely vacant since October 2019, we are excited about the prospects of an entirely unpressured fishery.
For those interested in securing dates for the Fall 2020, please note that a minimum group of 4 anglers will be required each week at the lodge. If you are a group of less than 4 anglers, please let us know of your interest and we’ll attempt to pair you with other anglers. Additionally, all trips must occur Saturday to Saturday (7 nights/6 days fishing), custom length trips as well as custom transfers are not available at this time.
Please note that the hotel has undergone significant renovation and rearrangement to include glass partitions (in the common areas) and separation. Masks will be required of guests during ground transfers, while fishing in the boat, and in hotel common areas (aside from dining). Clients will not be permitted to walk through town.
