Aniak River Lodge Alaska

Aniak River Lodge offers a truly unique Alaskan wilderness experience combining a comfortable lodge, a fully outfitted tent camp, and a remarkably diverse array of angling opportunities including all five species of pacific salmon, rainbow trout, char, grayling, northern pike and fishable numbers of the rare sheefish. Aniak River Lodge is the only commercial operation located on this remote western Alaska system. While you may see the random raft float by, it’s more likely the other anglers you encounter will be sharing the dinner table. This is one of the best rivers in the state for mousing where the heavy shouldered rainbows rarely pass up a big meaty morsel. Better yet there is no lull in the action here, as the opportunistic rainbows feed vigorously throughout the entire season. King salmon arrive in late June, followed by chums, sockeyes and then in August, the first silver salmon arrive. Aniak River Lodge provides a fantastic experience for both seasoned AK anglers and first time visitors to “The Great Land”.

Location:
Aniak River Lodge is located 90 miles east of Bethel, Alaska.

Fishing Program:
Anglers will start their trip with stop at the base lodge to grab a warm lunch and change into their gear, while the staff loads up the luggage. From there, you will enjoy a jet boat ride 25 miles upriver from the village of Aniak. Anglers will spend their days of fishing there with accommodations based out of the new, main lodge. Each day, two anglers set out with their guide and travel up and down the river via jet boat, chasing an incredible variety of species. Depending on your week, some seven to eleven different species can be targeted. With little competition from other anglers, the fishing is much like the “good old days”. Whether you are targeting the migrating salmon, the rare sheefish or the many large rainbows that call the river home, guests enjoy great catch rates and a leisurely pace. If you desire guests can boat up river, fishing their way to the deluxe tent camp, ten miles upstream. Guests can spend the night here fishing the upper reaches of the Aniak where rainbows, char and grayling abound. This is the best location for mousing, as the rainbows see little pressure and are eager to chase large offerings. The evening of your last day guests will prepare for your following morning’s journey home after a hot breakfast prepared by the gourmet chef.

Accommodations and Meals:
Aniak River Lodge incorporates three different facilities during the week. Upon arrival in Aniak, you will be shuttled to the base lodge where you can grab lunch, beverages and then change into your waders for the ride upstream. After 25 miles of river travel guests arrive at the newly built main lodge. The main building is where guests gather for meals and storytelling. Anglers stay in one of seven double occupancy cabins with private baths which include running water, flush toilets and hot showers. Upstream abut 25 miles more is a a deluxe tent camp. Here guests can sleep in double occupancy Weatherport tents with hard wooden floors, cots, heaters and linens. The facilities include hot/cold running water and showers. The dining tent also doubles as a common area where guests can sit back, relax and tell stories while sipping on a hot beverage. There also is a drying tent for wet garments and waders.

Meals are hearty with a variety of options. Breakfasts include all the classics like eggs, toast, cereal, and hash browns. Lunch typically consists of hot soup, deluxe sandwiches and snacks with beverages of your choice. If weather permits, a hot shore lunch may be possible. Dinners are prepared by the executive chef and include a mix of meats, local seafood and many side dishes. The week ends with a grand finale feast that is not soon forgotten. The lodge is happy to accommodate special dietary requests in advance.
