Combining fly fishing and hiking in the Slovenian Alps with sightseeing and touring the coast, this tour takes you through Slovenia’s best sights. After a brief stop in the wonderful capital city of Ljubljana this tour takes you strait to the foothills of the Slovenian Alps for world class hiking and fishing. There you will stay in three post-card perfect towns of Bled, Bohinj, and Bovec. From these wonderful towns you will have the option of fishing one of the many streams including the Scoca, Idrijca, and Sava Bohinjka as well as many of their tributaries, or take a self guided hike in the foothills of the alps. After that, the tour moves south to the coastal town of Prian, considered the Venice of Slovenia. After enjoying a evening in Piran, you will have a day sail to Venice. You will then finish up with visiting a few of the countries most interesting historical sites before returning to Ljubljana.
Day 1: ARRIVAL TO LJUBLJANA
Start your trip with Ljubljana city, the capital of Slovenia. The transfer from Ljubljana airport to hotel is included.
Main attractions: Slovene capital, old town center, lovely “fin de siecle” mansions and the mighty fortress above the city.
Relax with a drink on the bank of Ljubljanica river and go for an evening walk where you'll enjoy the lights and sounds of the city. Accommodations are in the 4 star hotel, Slon.
Day 2: LJUBLJANA – BLED
After breakfast guided city walk (2 hrs) and transfer to Lake Bled.
Spend the afternoon visiting the various Lake Bled attractions such as the castle, visit the island on a pletna boat and visit the beautiful Vintgar gorge. Make sure to try the Lake Bled cream cake in a local restaurant. Accommodation is in a 4 star hotel with lake view.
You can also do half day hike to the gorge and surrounding villages. **Note: 10€/person supplement for transfer to start of hike.
Day 3: BLED – Fly Fishing (Bled hotel 4 star).
BLED – BOHINJSKA BELA – LAKE BLED – BLED 15 km round trip /ascent 270 m. Hillsides and panoramic walk (4 star hotel). Today you will take a leisurely stroll into Bled, a world famous town on the shore of a beautiful glacial lake, with its unique island church sitting proudly in the lake, and the castle perched high upon a cliff standing guard over the town. A short panoramic walk can be taken to the villages of Kupljenik and Bela. For the best photos of the lake, castle and Karawanke range, photographers will want to ascend Osojnica. End the day with the local specialty – the cream cake “Kremšnita” – in one of the great little tea shops beside the lake.
Day 4: BLED - Fly Fishing (Bled 4 star hotel).
BLED - RADOVLJICA – TALEZ HILL – LAKE BLED 13 km round trip. Alpine walk (4 star hotel).
10 min transfer to start of hike. Starting on the town square of Radovljica, you start your hike with a short climb from the confluence of the two Sava rivers. Hike up to the Jelovica high plateau, a popular walk for locals, mostly because it’s a great picnic spot to enjoy good food and cold beer amid the sweeping vistas of the opposing Karavanke mountain range. The return to Bled leads you along the quiet, shady riverside of the Sava Bohinjka.
Day 5: BLED TO BOHINJ - Fly Fishing (Bohinj 4 star hotel).
(car transfer 20 min) POKLJUKA – USKOVNICA SADLE – LAKE BOHINJ 12 kms /ascent 200 m. Mountain meadows & tree line walk (4 star hotel). You will be driven by car up to the Pokljuka Plateau from which you will begin your hike across mountain pastures and old farmhouses where you will come to a viewing point providing outstanding views into the Bohinj Valley. As you descend you can stop at the little historic village of Studor where you can visit the museum and see how people lived 150 years ago. Your final destination is Lake Bohinj, the jewel in the heart of the Triglav National Park, and the small settlement of Ribčev Laz (Fisherman’s Pass).
Day 6: LAKE BOHINJ 16 / 23 kms. Lakeside / valley walk (4 star hotel).
Spend the day strolling around this wonderful, tranquil lake sitting in the shadows of the immense mountains of the Julian Alps. Warm weather permitting, you can swim in its crystal clear water. Try the delicious Bohinj trout. At the western end of the lake is a short trail up to Savica Waterfall, which feeds the lake. Then you can take the cable car up to the 1,532 meter high Vogel Mountain for a spectacular view of Mount Triglav, the highest peak in the Julian Alps. Spend the evening in one of the cozy village pubs and try the local home-made honey brandy.
Day 7: (car transfer 120 min) BOHINJ – BOVEC. Canyon and hillside walk (4 star hotel).
A morning car transfer brings you to the starting point of your walk – entrance to the Moznica river canyon. The landscape and surrounding mountains you will walk through were once background to many WWI battles. Several bitter battles were fought here between the Austrian empire and the Italians. The trail passes by the remains of many once mighty fortifications.
Day 8 BOVEC – ZMUKLICA RIVER CANYON – KLUZE FORTRESS – ST. LENART CHURCH – BOVEC 14 km. Riverside / valley walk. (4 star hotel). The final day takes you to the "Queen of the Alpine Waters" – the emerald colored River Soca. Its breathtaking colors have wowed many walkers and water sportsmen for centuries. Freshen up in one of the shallow ponds and continue on towards Kluze Fortress. Built more than a century ago to block access to Southern Austria, it has survived all subsequent wars and is now an impressive anti-war museum.
Day 9 BOVEC – PIRAN (4 star hotel). After breakfast beautiful journey with transfer across Carst area to Piran, beautiful fisherman's village on Adriatic sea. Explore the coast and its villages with afternoon hike along sea shore, visit salt fields in Sečovlje or just simply relax and take a swim. Your hotel is located on main square in Piran.
Day 10: PIRAN – VENICE EXCURSION BY BOAT – PIRAN
Start the trip to Venice with boat with arrival to port in Piran (almost in front of hotel) and visit Venice with a local, English speaking guide. This fully guided excursion, with some free time, shows you all main attractions of this famous place. Return in evening hours to Piran.
Day 11: PIRAN – POSTOJNA – LJUBLJANA
After breakfast we will take you with transfer back to capital Ljubljana and on the way we will stop at legendary Predjama castle and the Postojna cave , biggest cave system in Europe. At both sites, enjoy a guided tour in English with entrance ticket included. Another 30 min drive to your accommodation in Ljubljana will leave some free time for last minute sightseeing of capital, shopping or simply relaxing at Ljubljana river shore.
Day 12: Departure after breakfast, transfer to Ljubljana airport.
