For the true anadromous junkie needing access to fresh sea-run fish every month of the year, there may be no location equal to Terrace, British Columbia. Here the fly fishing season never ends, only changes. When it comes to an innate knowledge of these waters, few outfitters offer what Stan Doll offers, that being forty years of guiding the region.
Stan’s home is also his lodge. Located on the outskirts of Terrace the home-style lodge offers four double occupancy bedrooms and three shared baths throughout the home. Tasty home-cooked meals are served family style upstairs. Stan offers an unprecedented number of angling options in the Terrace, Prince Rupert/Kitimat region. When it comes to classified waters, no one even comes close. With hard to come by permits for the Copper, Skeena and Kalum, Stan’s standard packages are as good as they get. For the ultimate spring steelhead adventure Stan can arrange custom helicopter trips into some of the most remote and tightly controlled systems in all of British Columbia including the Kwinamass, Ishkeenickh, Nass and Kincolith plus some other coastal rivers. In terms of a truly remote, exclusive and productive steelhead adventure, few if any programs compare to these.
Whether you are after summer steelhead, winter steelhead or big kings fresh out the pacific, Stan and his sons offer a great product for a great price. Shorter stays can also be accommodated.
Location: Stan’s lodge is located at 5131 McConnell Ave. Terrace, BC.
Fishing Program: Stan and his sons offer a wider range of fishing opportunities. They fish the local rivers by jet boat, raft, walk and wade and helicopter. Stan also offers saltwater charter trips especially in the month of May, June and July. Stan and his crew like to fly fish first and foremost and are comfortable with both spey and single hand anglers. Spring is a great time of year to fly fish coastal BC with steelhead in more rivers than at any other time of year. Anglers will fly fish a variety of interchangeable sink tips on both large and small rivers. King salmon, bright and fresh from the ocean are available from late April until mid-August. The spey rod is an excellent choice for these big brutes. Summer steelhead fly fishing begins in August and continues through November. The Copper River is an excellent dry fly and greased line fishery; a multi-tip line system will ensure a proper presentation regardless of conditions. Northern coho, the largest of all coho, provide additional sport and variety in September and October. 12–14 pound fish are common with some 20 plus pound brutes. Single hand rods with sinking tips work best, as stripping flies is the most effective technique. Anglers typically fish two per guide.
