Andros Island has a reputation for remote flats with big bonefish and consistently produces some of the largest fly-caught bonefish in the world. Stafford Creek Lodge fishes the famous Joulter Cays which is made up of over fifty islets dotted on a 125 square-mile sand bank bisected by meandering deep-water channels that are rarely more than 15 feet deep. This combination of interlacing channels (bonefish highways) and seemingly endless flats makes the Joulters a must-fish destination for Stafford Creek guests. Prescott Smith, owner and head guide, prides himself in his fishery for not only bonefish, but permit and tarpon as well.
You'll find the secluded lodge in an idyllic setting, nestled among the native palms and hugging the banks of the calm, clear waters of Stafford Creek. Stafford Creek Lodge is a magical place. Come and discover a new world of Bonefish, Tarpon, and Permit fly fishing. You will explore a vast saltwater fly fishing wilderness from the northern Joulters Cays to the numerous creek systems, inland lakes, and the west coast of Andros. You can even fly fish for tarpon right off the dock in front of the lodge after a day of flats fishing.
Stafford Creek Lodge is located on the northeastern shore of Andros Island in the Bahamas.
In classic Bahamian style, anglers at Stafford Creek Lodge are typically sight fishing to bonefish from the bow of a poled flats skiff. Catch rates typically range from 2-7 fish per day that average 4-5 pounds, with frequent shots at larger bonefish, as well as occasional shots at tarpon, permit and barracuda. Stafford Creek fly fishes the nearby waters of Andros’ Northwest shore as well as the Joulter Cays, and the remote waters of the upper West Side when the conditions permit. Anglers fly fish from Maverick Mirage skiffs, complete with poling platforms, 90-140 hp Yamaha outboards, and spacious casting decks.
Nature walks, birding, a visit to a blue hole, and dolphin watching. We can also arrange a stroll on white sand beaches, snorkeling and diving, stand up paddle-boarding, kyaking, or a taxi tour of historic sites and artisan workshops on the island.
Accommodations and Meals:
The lodge is situated in a private setting overlooking the lower reach of Stafford Creek. The main lodge contains the kitchen, and dining room, and the guest cottages are spaced along the property with attractive pathways interconnecting them. All feature two queen-sized beds, full bathrooms, closets, refrigerators, ceiling fans, coffee makers, air conditioning, and private decks overlooking the creek. It is our opinion that Stafford Creek has some of the nicest angler accommodations in the Bahamas.
