Upper North Platte River Rockies

Southeast Wyoming is a wild region where brown and rainbow trout far outnumber cowboys. Nestled in the Saratoga Valley, the North Platte River has endless faces ranging from deep canyons, wide meandering flats and high desert sections, all rife with spectacular views, abundant wildlife, and no crowds. For those who have tired of the tried and true, this system is a discreet Western gem that warrants the attention of all serious trout anglers.

The 60 miles of river between the North Park of Colorado and the town of Saratoga is a blue ribbon trout fishery and has not been stocked since 1979. The upper North Platte now claims 4000 fish per mile, consisting mainly of browns and rainbows with a few Snake River cutthroats. The North Platte River offers a multitude of wade fishing and float fishing opportunities.

Location:
The upper North Platte River and Elk Hollow Lodge are located in southeastern Wyoming, south of Saratoga.

Fishing Program:
With wading and anchoring access to over twenty miles of the North Platte River, the guides at Four Seasons Anglers are uniquely qualified to show you what wild trout fishing in the American West can be. Fishing options include multiple sections of the North Platte and Encampment Rivers as well as private stillwaters.

Floats on the North Platte take place in a drift boat with two anglers and a guide. Private land easements allow our guests exclusive wading access to over 20 miles of the North Platte River. This allows you to get out and fish water that others must float pass. Anglers can expect to fish a variety of methods in this area. Nymph and streamer fishing will consistently hook fish and dry fly opportunities occur most days.

Fishing the Encampment River requires the use of self-bailing rafts. Due to the nature of the streambed wading opportunities are limited on the Encampment. A tributary of the North Platte, the Encampment River is a little-known gem that can, at times, offer amazing dry fly fishing for wild trout.

Fisheries:
The 60 miles of river between the North Park of Colorado and the town of Saratoga is a blue ribbon trout fishery and has not been stocked since 1979. The upper North Platte now claims 4000 fish per mile, consisting mainly of browns and rainbows with a few Snake River cutthroats. The North Platte River offers a multitude of wade fishing and float fishing opportunities.

Non-Angling Activities:
Hiking in the Medicine Bow National Forest, golfing, big game hunts (fall only), prairie dog hunts, spa treatment at the Saratoga Resort & Spa, scenic float trips, sporting clays course, trap/skeet course.

Accommodations and Meals:
Elk Hollow is located on the banks of the upper North Platte River just downstream of the confluence with the Encampment River. This riverside Lodge has five bedrooms, each with comfortable log beds, closets and private bathrooms. The lodge's other amenities include a modern kitchen, common living area with satellite TV, large dining room, bar, billiard room, two half baths, and a private boat ramp. All meals are prepared by our chef and served family style in the dining room. There is no better place to enjoy your favorite beverage after a hard day of fishing than the back deck overlooking the North Platte River. Just sit back, relax and watch the world go by as trout rise to the evening hatch and moose cross the river.

Elk Hollow is the only fishing lodge on the upper North Platte and offers over 10 miles of PRIVATE access (it is unlawful to wade or anchor on private land in Wyoming). This unmatched private access allows us limitless opportunities to customize your guided fishing trip. Several private boat ramps, a small private stream (located next to the lodge), and numerous trophy stillwaters ensure you the best chance to catch fish under any conditions. The location and private access ensure you an unforgettable Wyoming fly fishing experience.
