La Pescadora Mexico

La Pescadora is a small, family run operation located in Punta Allen on the Yucatan’s famed Ascension Bay. With a maximum capacity of only 8 anglers, La Pescadora is the perfect option for those seeking a casual, affordable and family-run home base for accessing the vast populations of bonefish, permit and tarpon of Ascension Bay. Together with her husband and head guide Jose, lodge manager Lily Bertram offers a welcoming and budget friendly operation that works with some of our favorite guides on the Yucatan.

La Pescadora Lodge is located near Punta Allen, Mexico on the north shore of Ascension Bay. The time in Mexico is one hour later than the US Pacific Time Zone.

Fishing Program:
Mexico's Ascension Bay has been captivating the hearts of saltwater fly anglers for decades. It has without a doubt solidified it's place in fly fishing folklore and established itself as a destination on most anglers' bucket lists or annual trip plans. The Ascension Bay/Boca Pila fishery offers anglers endless flats, mangrove lagoons, channels, beaches and reefs where bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook, barracuda, jacks, snapper and triggerfish are viable targets. Often times, chances for many of these scpecies are encountered in a single day on the flats, with this area being known as one of the best places on Earth to pursue a grand slam (catching a bonefish, permit and tarpon in the same day). The Sian Ka'an Bioshphere Preserve is home to more than 345 species of birds, including over one million wintering migratory song birds. Along with the incredible bird life, visitors may witness sea turtles, Cayman, manatees, dolphin and sting rays.

At La Pescadora, anglers access the fishing areas on 23 foot traditional Mexican Pangas with two guides on every boat (one senior guide and one junior guide). The boats are comfortable and easy to fish out of, featuring level casting desks and plenty of room for gear to be stowed. While a majority of the fly fishing is done from the boat there are also some opportunities to wade fish for bonefish and permit.

Accommodations and Meals:
Four double occupancy rooms flank the central dining area of La Pescadora, which features an open air bar, fly tying desk and the "wall of fame," where lucky anglers who catch their first permit or multiple species in a day have proudly inscribed their names on the wall since the lodge was constructed in February 2013. The front porch of the lodge features two outdoor seating areas perfect for sipping a cold beer and munching on a delicious snack prepared by the kitchen after a long day on the water. The grounds are beautifully kept with natural white sand and native trees of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Each guest room is thoughtfully styled and complete with two comfortable full beds, a private bathroom, ample amounts of storage for your gear, ceiling fan, air conditioning unit, screened windows, towels, a pitcher of drinking water and a front porch featuring a hammock and two chairs for relaxing in the early morning or evening. Dinner at La Pescadora is a delicious mix of traditional Mexican and American cuisine often featuring fresh seafood, steak, ceviche and side dishes that include locally sourced produce and ingredients. Breakfasts are complete with fresh fruit, eggs, meat, pancakes, coffee and juice. Lunches are taken on the boat each day and typically consist of sanwiches, fruit, chips, cookies and a selection of ice cold beverages.
