Rancho Leonero Mexico

Baja’s East Cape is a stark beautiful desert landscape surrounded by the fertile turquoise waters of the Sea of Cortez. The majority of the region’s activities surround the ocean with fishing, snorkeling, scuba, and kayaking topping the charts. Within a reasonable radius, there is also golf, a canyon zip line, several small towns, Cabo and plenty of hiking.

Rancho Leonero Location:
Rancho Leonero is located 50 miles northeast of San Jose del Cabo on the East Cape of Mexico's Baja Peninsula.

Rancho Leonero Guide Staff and Fishing Program:
The fishing at Rancho Leonero is by far the most popular activity. It is suitable for both fly and conventional anglers. There are several distinct venues. The most popular fishing platform is the diesel-powered fly bridge cruiser. The fleet consists of various vessels from 28’ to 32’. Equipment includes bimini tops, bait tanks, plumbed heads, fighting chairs and a mate. These boats are well suited to offshore billfishing as well as inshore fishing. Rancho Leonero also has a large fleet of center counsel 23-25 ft. super pangas with collapsible sun canopies, bait tanks and chairs. These pangas are suitable for offshore billfishing as well as inshore fishing but there is no mate on board and only a few have a head on board. Lastly, anglers also fish from the lodge rental kayaks (complete with rod holders) and from the beach.

Target species include striped marlin, rooster fish, tuna, sierra, pompano, pargo, cabrilla and assorted bottom fish.

Rancho Leonero Accommodations and Meals:
Rancho Leonero has three grades of accommodations. All are quite reasonably priced and feature AC, private baths, and fresh linens.

Rancho Leonero Non-Angling Activities:
While fishing and basic beach and poolside relaxation fill most of their patron time, Rancho Leonero offers a number of other popular activities:

  • Sea Kayaking: Sea kayaks can be rented by the hour or per day.
  • Snorkeling: Gear is available for rental by the day and special guided snorkeling tours are easily arranged to Coral Beach or the secluded Iguana Beach (where you can visit the nearby sea lion colony).
