Overview

Dierick’s Tsiu River Lodge has been family owned and operated since 1997. Greg Dierick has been fishing this river since he was a boy. Greg and his father, Ed, built the lodge after forty years of fishing this fantastic system. The Tsiu is a clear, pristine river that is home to a world-class run of silver salmon. The river is shallow and its sandy bottom allows for safe and rather easy wading. The river banks are mostly clear of vegetation allowing for easy casting situations. The lodge caters to all skill levels and for those eager to put fish on the bank and even take a few home. Most well presented flies are eagerly met by the acrobatic silver salmon and most return with sore forearms from catching, not just casting. Along with the silver salmon, steelhead, sockeye salmon, pink salmon and Dolly Varden are all present at times during the season.

Fishing Program

Each day begins with a hearty breakfast, after which you will proceed to the river with your guides. The lodge is located a short distance from the river. ATV’s are used to transport you to the river’s edge. The lodge focuses its efforts on the lower sections of river, where the fish are fresh from the ocean. The surroundings are void of trees, are sandy and have lots of room for back casts. You may use the ATV to travel up and down the river, but most will walk along the banks until active fish are found. The silvers are aggressive and fresh, taking most well-presented flies. Flies tied with marabou or rabbit are popular in colors of pink, orange, purple, black or combination of all. Pink poppers or “wogs” are popular, as fish can be had on these surface offerings. Anglers are typically equipped with 8 weight rods along with a quality reel with at least 100 yards of 30lb backing. Shooting heads are great or a versi-tip system, giving the angler the ability to change sinking portions of line for various conditions.

Accommodations

The Tsiu River Lodge has eight 12’ x 20’ cabins. Each cabin has a full bathroom with sink, toilet, shower, towels and 24-hour running water. Oil or electric heaters are used to keep the cabin warm and cozy. Each cabin has a protected porch for hanging rain gear, rods and waders or for a relaxing view of the surroundings. The cabins have four bunks, but typically 2 to 3 angler’s room together. Linens are provided and include cotton or flannel sheets, a warm comforter, blanket and pillow. Meals consist of hearty breakfasts of pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, oatmeal and fresh fruit. Pastries and coffee are served earlier if you want to get a head start on the day. Lunch is served at the lodge or stream side and consists of a variety of homemade soups and deli style sandwiches. Dinner is full course where entrees include fresh seafood, prime rib, New York Steaks, turkey or Cornish Game hens. Desserts are homemade and top off what is a great dining experience.
