Hosted Trip - Colombia Afloat with Jon Covich - 3 Spots Remain
By Max Salzburg
January 5, 2021
You are invited to join Fly Water Travel's Jon Covich in beautiful Colombia to experience a new and exciting Peacock Bass destination. Colombia is now on the move as a tourist destination, and Medellin is bustling, safe, and very interesting. Guests will overnight here before heading to the jungle, and the remote camp that Colombia Afloat puts in place each season. It is important to note that this is a camp, not a luxury lodge. So, although there are no mints on pillows, and wine is either red or white, our partners at Colombia Afloat have done a great job having a well-organized operation, and very attentive staff. For an adventurous angler, this has to be a destination near the top of their list.

Only three spots remain!

Dates: March 5-14th, 2021

Available Spots: 3

Rate: $4450 per person based on double occupancy

Included: 2 nights in Medellin, airport pick-up and drop off, within country flights and transportation to and from lodge, 7 nights at camp, 6 full days fishing, all food and beverages at camp

Trip Itinerary:

March 5th, 2021: Arrive Medellin, Colombia
Guests will be met at the airport by an Afloat representative, and transferred to their hotel in the heart of Medellin. Jon will be on-site, and will organize time in the evening for seeing some of the sites and having dinner on the town.

Meals Included: None
Accommodations: 4 star hotel in or near the Poblado neighborhood of Medellin

March 6th, 2021: Transfer to Colombia Afloat Camp
We will be met early at the hotel for the short ride to Medellin’s domestic airport where we will join our charter airplane for the 1:45 minute flight to the small town of Primavera, Vichada. We will have a nice lunch in this small town before transferring with four-wheel drive trucks about 4 hours through the eastern plains of Colombia to the Tomo River. There, we will join our guides for a 15 minute boat trip to the camp.

Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch, appetizers and dinner
Accomodations: Floating Cabins on the banks of the Tomo river. Two beds per cabin, toilet, river-water shower. There is no air-conditioning, but each bed has its own fan.

March 7th-12th, 2021: Fish the Tomo river and its nearby tributaries
Each morning guests will have a simple breakfast at camp, and then join their guides for the day’s fishing. Travel each day will vary in length depending upon the zone guests are assigned. Lunch will either be brought to you, or guests will return to the camp, depending upon where they are fishing that day. Guests will be fishing two main rivers, and the many “lagunas,” or lakes isolated from the rivers as the water has receded. Guests should expect many encounters with Peacock Bass each day, with fish nearing 20 pounds a good possibility.

Meals Included: Breakfast, lunch, appetizers and dinner
Accommodations: Colombia Afloat Camp

March 13th, 2021: Return to Medellin
After an early breakfast, we will follow the same route as we had for arrival to the Afloat camp. We should expect to be at our hotel in Medellin around 3:00 pm. Again, Jon will be on hand and will organize some activities and meals this last night.

Meals Included: Breakfast and lunch
Accommodations: 4 star hotel in or near the Poblado neighborhood of Medellin

March 14th, 2021: Depart Colombia
We will have a very early pick up for the transfer to Medellin’s international airport. Most flights to the US depart early in the morning.
