The most prolific and unspoiled west slope cutthroat trout fishery in the world, the Middle Fork of Idaho’s Salmon River offers what many consider the finest multi-day wilderness float trip in America.
The best fishing on the river is late June and most of July and again from mid-August through September.  The June-August trips are run in mostly wooden drift boats while the September trips are run in specialized fishing rafts.  In the fall the outfitter has upper river 4-day 1-guest-per-boat trips with a max of 7 guests per trip.  They also have 5 & 6 day canyon section trips with a max of 14 guests per trip.

The middle part of the season from late July though mid August the fishing in the river does slow a little however the tributary fishing is prime during that time of the season.

They also offer whitewater rafting or combination fishing and rafting on all of the June-August trips.  Combination trips allow guests to fish half of each day and raft half of each day.  This works best for groups of 4 or more however there are two combination spots open on the August 13-18 trip this season.

Helfrich River Outfitters is owner-operated and boasts a superb staff, incredible Dutch oven cuisine, deluxe camps that are fully set up upon arrival including hot showers, and a safety and service record that is unequaled in the field. For group members interested in more than fishing, hiking and paddling inflatable kayaks are daily options. Add to that the natural hot springs, native pictographs, and abundant wildlife of the area, and you will quickly see why we consider this trip through the lower 48’s largest contiguous wilderness area a never to be forgotten experience for family groups and nature-loving anglers alike.
