Brad Jackson

Brad Jackson, Fly Water founder and Chairman of the Board, began guiding in Alaska in 1975 and in Montana in 1976.  A 1977 Humboldt State University graduate in Fisheries, Jackson co-founded The Fly Shop, a global retail and mail-order fly shop, guide service, and fly fishing travel booking agency, in 1978.  Jackson sold his half-interest in 1988 to pursue ongoing opportunities in the outdoor freelance writing and photography field as well as consulting for a variety of fly shops, tackle manufacturers, fishing lodges, and private-waters fisheries.  He has been a featured or keynote speaker on both fly fishing topics and business strategies at over 100 angling and angling-industry venues over the past four decades.

Beginning in 1976, Jackson began writing for national fly fishing periodicals.  He has served as editor-at-large for several publications – and hundreds of Jackson’s articles and photos have appeared in dozens of periodicals, books, calendars, and brochures, including Fly Fisherman, Fly Rod and Reel, California Fly Fisher, Fly Fishing, River Journal, Gray’s Journal and Steelhead Fly Fishing Journal.

An avid conservationist, Brad helped found the Sacramento River Council, has raised countless conservation funds for angling advocacy groups, and has received the coveted CalTrout Streamkeeper Award for his work protecting the Sacramento River. When he is not fishing, hunting upland birds and waterfowl, or coaching his son’s youth sports teams, Jackson is a financial advisor for a major national brokerage. Brad’s home is a few miles west of Redding, California, where he lives with his family, including a black lab named Sheila.
