Trout Availability - Lower Deschutes River Float Trips, Oregon
March 24, 2021
Fish the high desert for hard-fighting wild trout.
June and July are special months on Oregon's famous Deschutes River. In June, there is still a lingering green hue on the canyon walls from the spring bloom and the temperatures begin to settle into their summertime norms. Come July, summer is in full swing and long days are punctuated by sipping trout and flurries of insect activity. Waders are replaced with wet-wading gear, and the caddis and mayfly box is favored over the stonefly one. The crowds thin out, yet the fish continue to eat. Floating down this powerful river, wading up a tree-lined bank armed with a size 16 caddis, and sleeping under the stars in this gorgeous desert setting is one of the finest ways that one can spend a day in the Pacific Northwest.
