The best juvenile tarpon lodge on earth just got even better!

Following the cancellation of the entire 2020 season due to the pandemic, we are incredibly excited about our path forward for the 2021 season. This amazing tarpon fishery has been rested for well over a year and we couldn't be more optimistic about what these fertile and unpressured fishing grounds will produce for visiting anglers. Along with the prospects of some fantastic fishing, there are a host of improvements and upgrades to the program we are excited to share with you.

New Improved Lodging:  The biggest update is that lodging is moving to a new, more modern, and comfortable hotel in Rio Lagartos (about 5 miles to the east of San Felipe). Additionally, fishing guests will be the only clientele staying at the hotel so the operation will function more like a "lodge" than in previous years. Guest rooms are spacious, more modern, comfortable, and all feature sea views. We are also excited for guests to take advantage of the dockside palapa bar that should make for a fun setting at the end of the day. The cuisine is also greatly improved and will feature a blend of Mexican and American fare with options for made-to-order dishes. Additionally, all of the boats at TCL have been upgraded with optional lean bars, more comfortable seating, and brand new Yamaha engines.

The Fishing Program: The same aspects of the program that have made it a success for nearly two decades are all in place, including experienced guides, purpose-built fly fishing skiffs, intimate and unpressured setting, spit-shift schedule (whenever possible), and loads of opportunities for juvenile tarpon in crystal clear water on floating fly lines.  Run times have always been fairly short at Tarpon Cay relative to other destinations, but we do expect them to be roughly 10 - 15 minutes longer on average.

The Team: For those of you who may remember the famed and popular onsite manager and lodge-host extraordinaire Beto, you'll be pleased to know that he is back and will be available to help all anglers with any of their requests or needs. As well, two of the most senior guides in TCL's history, Carlos and Pedro, will be back on the staff (along with Martin, Cresp, and Raphael).

COVID Testing: Many guests have been inquiring as to the newly required COVID testing procedures for the upcoming season and we are happy to say that a plan is in place with rapid testing capabilities available in Rio Lagartos, Cancun proper, and at the Cancun International Airport.  As with everything related to COVID, the situation remains fluid and we will be keeping guests abreast of any and all changes.
